Stan was my only Dutch driving teacher, so I don’t have anyone to compare him to. I can talk about my experience with him though. I’ve been driving for over 30 years in many countries, but I had to relearn everything here. What they expect in the Netherlands is completely different from what I’ve been doing. It’s like learning a new language. It’s extremely specific and often doesn’t make sense, but that’s what they want, and I can’t imagine anyone teaching it better than Stan did. I tried explaining this to my friends back home in the USA and they couldn’t believe it. There they basically just handed me a license and said “have fun.” You’re lucky if he accepts you. I’m so glad to be done with this challenge, but I’ll genuinely miss chatting with him. I consider him a friend now. He made the process actually feel worth doing. He knows his material extremely well and is great company too. Most importantly, he showed me how to drive safely here, how to break the habits I didn’t know I had, and how to pass the test, which I did easily today on my first try. All the five-star reviews are real.
